Gemstones can also be used for/by children. However, there are a number of things that need to be taken into account.
First of all, it is important for young children to pay close attention to choosing an item that does not pose a risk of choking. Bracelets with small beads or small stones that a child can easily put in the mouth are therefore only suitable under adult supervision. We also recommend the following:
Do not allow a child to carry more than one type of stone at a time.
Children are generally much more sensitive to the effects of gemstones than adults. Wearing more than one stone can quickly become too much of a good thing for a child. From the age of ten, you can carefully try to have a child wear two stones, but always try it with one stone first. Certain types of stones can be combined, especially if they work together with one purpose or effect.
Use stones that are suitable for children.
The older a child the more stones can be used. Below is an overview of which gemstones can be used at which age:
Babies
Rose quartz, blue chalcedony and petrified wood. Possibly green aventurine and rock crystal if the first three stones do not have the desired effect.
Toddlers
Rose quartz, blue chalcedony, green aventurine, rock crystal, single-colored jaspers, Dalmatian jasper, agates (not fire agate), petrified wood and amber.
Toddlers
Amazonite, apophyllite, rose quartz, smoky quartz, all colours of chalcedony, all colours of aventurine, rock crystal, single-coloured jasper, dalmatian jasper, agates (not fire agate), petrified wood, amber, amethyst, fluorite and all types of calcite. From this age onwards, you can also let a child choose a stone themselves, but always submit this choice to an expert.
Children from 6 to 10 years old
Amazonite, apophyllite, aragonite, onyx, rose quartz, all colours of chalcedony, all colours of aventurine, rock crystal, all types of jasper, types of agate (not fire agate), rhyolite, petrified wood, amber, amethyst, fluorite, all types of calcite, all types of tourmaline, chrysocolla, turquoise, lapis lazuli, labradorite or a stone chosen by the child (after consultation with an expert).
Children from 10 to 16 years old
A bit dependent on the development and sensitivity of the child. With great sensitivity or a very childish teenager still a bit cautious. If this is not the case then almost all stones are possible, but preferably not more than one stone at a time.
From 16 years
Almost all stones possible.
The above list is intended as a guide for choosing a suitable stone for a child.
